INSURANCE COVERAGE DENIED
“Those Baby Boomers who helped get National Grandparent Day passed in the 70’s probably never dreamed they too, would be celebrating this holiday some day,” says Frank N. Darras, the nation’s leading medical insurance attorney. “Now they are out there trying to find the Long-Term Care Insurance that will help them to remain financially sound in their sunset years.”
“May of these same people are healthy and active well into their 60s and 70s. People are not just living longer, but living well for much longer than ever before,” states Darras. “As such, their Long-Term Care insurance needs are different as well.”
“There are only three types of benefits you should look for when trying to find the right LTC policy,” says Darras. “Be sure you are covered for skilled care, intermediate care and custodial care by non-professionals as well as trained medical professionals.”
Stay away from the “cheapest deal in around” companies. Chances are they won’t last long enough for you should you need their service for a senior medical insurance claim or long-term care claim in 20 years.
Here are some tips from Darras to consider:
- Research the company’s underwriting and see how stringent they are with applicants. Healthy, active people should apply early so the rates are low and if they get the denial of insurance coverage seek a top insurance attorney.
- Look out for extra services that insurance companies try to sell, e.g. training for caregivers, ambulance services, home modification or respite care.
- You want benefits that are focused on home care, assisted living facilities and residential care facilities.
- It may be hard to choose now when you are so healthy, but you should try to get a policy that has a unlimited lifetime maximum, if you can afford it. What’s the sense of paying lower premiums for a long time if the ultimate outcome doesn’t provide you the care and lifestyle you desire or you end up with a claim denial?
“While purchasing the policy is most of the work, the smart shopper will monitor their company over the years to make sure they remain solid,” says Darras.
Additional things to consider after you have purchased your policy include:
Being certain your payments are always on time by paying at least 2 weeks ahead to be sure your check has time to post. Be certain the check is made out to correct insurance carrier and also be aware that the policy will lapse if you fail to make a payment timely.
